How you can Setup Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ Using MIDI Keyboards along with a Computer

In the following paragraphs, Let me tell you the way to create a functioning Hauptwerk system, using MIDI controller keyboards.

Introduction
Many home organists frequently imagine playing a wurlitzer theatre organ or perhaps a chapel organ to raise their playing one step further, as well as for personal enjoyment. Previously this is very hard as you would need to have physical accessibility instruments to be able to play them. Not too any longer! By using modern computing technology, samples and MIDI, the house organist/enthusiast are now able to play whether Wurlitzer theatre organ, or perhaps a chapel/pipe organ without departing home utilizing a computer running Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ software, controlled from either MIDI keyboards with pedals or practically any decent Electronic/digital home organ which has MIDI out.

Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ Software
Hauptwerk is software written by Milan Digital Audio and offered by Hauptwerk's website. It will come in three versions Free edition, fundamental and FUll edition. We are while using FREE edition, version 4 for that reasons want to know ,. Version 4 is about 2.2GB download, so I would suggest installing on the fast-ant web connection. After you have downloaded Hauptwerk v4, it must be installed on your hard drive PC, Laptop PC, MAC or Mac laptop laptop.

Needs and Requirements
Desktop Computer needs
I'll assume that you've a decent, relatively modern PC which you can use for running Hauptwerk. Hauptwerk recommend no less than an Apple Core2Duo system with 2GB RAM installed a minimum of. With this article Minimum suggested is definitely an Apple Core 2 Duo system, I'll use my existing E7500 Core2Duo based system here, when i get it available. This really is considered low to mid-range spec nowadays, because the Apple Core 2 Duos happen to be changed through the Core i series processors. Hauptwerk recommend these Core I Processor chips for the best performance, although You can be assured that my setup runs fine, while using FREE St. Annes Mosely organ that's provided with Hauptwerk. If you wish to use bigger sample sets, I suggest using whether Core i5 or i7, but because I'll be only focusing around the FREE edition of Hauptwerk, then your Apple Core 2 Duo E7500 is much more than able to do the task.

If you're planning to operate Hauptwerk on the grander scale, and employ either the Fundamental or Full version for running much bigger samplesets, then Hauptwerk really recommend that you employ an Apple Core i5 or Core i7 processor with 8-16GB RAM. This can need a 64bit operating-system, for example Home windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. If you have your personal computer with 32 bit home windows, it will likely be limited to 3.5GB RAM as that's a limitation of 32bit software.

AMD processors may also be Suitable for Hauptwerk, I've examined Hauptwerk with an AMD Athlon II x2 250 CPU, with 2GB ram also it runs well. AMD are substantially less expensive than Apple, along with a good option for somebody on a tight budget.

Laptop PC needs
I run Hauptwerk 4 on my small aging DELL Inspiron 640m laptop. This laptop continues to have existence inside it yet, because it is with different Core2Duo CPU running at 2.0ghz, with 2.5GB DDR2 ram. I upgraded it not long ago, if you possess a DELL Inspiron 640m or 6400 by having an older Core Duo CPU, it's possible worth changing it to a Core2Duo, that will upgrade the performance somewhat.

To attain MIDI connectivity on my small laptop, I personally use a 11 USB MIDI interface, readily available for a couple of pounds via eBay. These bankruptcies are not really suggested by Hauptwerk, but I will tell you they get the job done all right, and are simple to setup. Home windows instantly installs the motorists of these MIDI products.

Concerning the soundcard on the laptop, I personally use the on-board seem while using Asio4all driver, which fits superbly on my small DELL's SigmaTel on-board soundcard. Ideally a USB or FireWire solution are the best, like the exterior M-Audio 2496 or even the M-Audio FireWire 410 interface. The EMU 0404 USB would be also the ideal choice. I'd steer clear of the Soundblaster exterior Audigy USB NX because it doesn't have ASIO!

MIDI Keyboard Remotes
If you do not already poses an electronic or electronic home organ with MIDI then M-audio keystation Es series remotes are great for Hauptwerk remotes.
I've effectively performed Hauptwerk using my Wersi Arcus like a controller, although I am unable to make use of a full pedalboard with this particular. I must be pleased with 13 notes for the time being.

MIDI Bass Pedal Board
If you're not searching for a complete-blown chapel or theatre organ pedalboard, then you will find a couple of options available, either used or new.

Roland PK5-A 13 Note MIDI Pedalboard
Hammond XPK100 13 note MIDI pedalboard
Hammond XPK200 20 note MIDI pedalboard
Hammond PK25XKP 25 note MIDI pedalboard
Studiologic Mega pixel-113 13 note MIDI pedalboard
Studiologic Mega pixel-117 17 Note MIDI pedalboard

Soundcard - Audio Interface
Hauptwerk don't advise using Creative Audigy or Soundblaster cards, however i will tell you the Free trial set runs effortlessly around the Creative Audigy 2 Platinum card, so stop worrying for those who have one of these simple cards.Hauptwerk recommend the M-Audio 2496 audio card, so that as I've one of these simple to hands, this is exactly what I'll be using with this article. They are simple to buy second-hands now, and could be bought on eBay for approximately 25. Now is a great time for you to install the soundcard. As you will find a wide variety of types, I am unable to cover all because it's past the scope want to know ,, so please to consult your soundcard producers documentation.

Loudspeakers
Hauptwerk recommend utilizing a good Hi-Fi system or powered monitors may also be good. I personally use a Technics receiver with Wharfedale loudspeakers with higher results. I just use Stereo system and never multichannel audio, however you should use multichannel audio if you want, but this isn't covered here in the following paragraphs.

Controlling Hauptwerk
Probably the most fundamental method of controlling Hauptwerk on screen is by using laptop computer mouse. If you work with Hauptwerk with no touch-screen, I suggest a radio mouse because the cable will not get in the manner.
The most typical practice is applying a Touch screen although these may bump the price up a little, but it's very intuitive and simple to use in comparison having a mouse

Putting together the Console and Situating the constituents
I've my M-audio keystation 61ES on the top of my Yamaha P-155 digital piano, by itself stand. This is an excellent setup, because it enables for bass pedals underneath. Photo not far off...
Laptop Computer base unit I position right or left side from the Piano and M-audio 61, using the monitor with an a appropriate shelf.

Hooking up everything Up
Make certain your soundcard is installed and fully functioning as well as your PC is connected and setup. The M-Audio is simple to use when i only have to connect a USB cable towards the PC and install the motorists. The laptop keyboard is USB powered therefore it does not require a separate adapter. I connect the P-155 to MIDI-IN around the pedals, and MIDI from the pedals towards the MIDI cable from the M-Audio 2496. MIDI is connected 'out' from the pedals 'in' towards the soundcard.

Setting up Hauptwerk
For that reasons want to know ,, I'll assume that we're using Microsoft Home windows 7, as it is the present Home windows version, and suggested by Hauptwerk. Download Hauptwerk 4 FREE edition in the Hauptwwerk website.

Run the setup file that you simply downloaded, and click on Done, when finished. Now you ought to have a method that's all set to go, besides the finer points of establishing the MIDI hardware in Hauptwerk, i.e telling the program what hardware you use and just what MIDI channels things are on. This really is now much simpler in Hauptwerk 4, because the Hauptwerk designers introduced a MIDI learn function, that instantly picks up your MIDI configurations, and takes the headache from configuring it by hand.

Stay updated for part two want to know ,, establishing MIDI. Pics and vids to follow along with!

  1. Well, Hauptwerk ran through the MIDI configuations. I had both keyboards connected through the MIDI cables. After setup... no keyboard control over Hauptwerk. I tried playing a MIDI file: o.k. But, the keyboards (Casio and Radio Shacky) won't play the pipe organ. Where to from here?
